Askold's grave is located on the right bank of the Dnieper River, near the Lipki. An ancient legend says that in 882 Prince Oleg of Novgorod was lured to this place Askold and Dir, who reigned in Kiev, and killed them because of the "ignoble" because they did not belong to the family of Rurik. Oleg himself ascended the throne of Kiev and Kiev promised to make the mother of Russian cities.
