Writing about holidays at this time of the year is a little bit painful for me, as January is usually the time when I do my research and book our summer holidays. Not this year, as soon our family will be expanding, and our baba number two will be born. I still would love to go for a late summer holidays somewhere, and Al Fresco Holidays just sound perfect for our to be “first family holidays with our new baby” . By the way, this post has been written as an entry to the Tots100/Al Fresco Holidays competition.Not long ago I was writing about how much I miss living in Sydney, and my sadness leaving it behind and moving to London. It was very easy to get used to spending time on the most beautiful beaches in the world and the fantastic weather too. Thanks to living there, we had a chance to travel a lot and see a lot of the Oz.When I was dating daddy for just over a year, we decided to spend the Xmas holidays up north, in Cape Tribulation (the place where the rainforest meets the sea). It was the first time for me, and as daddy was organising everything, I knew nothing about where we would be staying at. I packed all my glamorous shoes and dresses, as I was still at the stage of impressing daddy on a daily basis… Anyway, I also packed some leisure clothes and shoes, and things for diving. I was sooo excited. To be honest, I expected to be staying at some hotel… and when we arrived at some backpackers’ place in the middle of the rainforest, I was a bit disappointed. But not for long! When I saw the wooden hut we were staying at, I fell in love with it, and thought that if I had packed just my bikini that would have probably been enough! We spent fantastic few days there, exploring the rainforest (yes, we saw a few snakes… .) , canoeing, and enjoying the gorgeous beaches. Then we drove to Cairns, and Port Douglas, where we spent the New Year’s Eve. I will never forget how hot and humid it was. The place we stayed at over there was more civilised than in Cape Tribulation, and I even managed to wear one of my gorgeous dresses and sparkly shoes. Everything was perfect.The last part of our holiday was diving at the Great Barrier Reef and a boat trip around the Whitsunday Islands. I passed my diving certificate and the beauty you can see over there cannot be beaten by diving anywhere around the whole world… at least I think so! It was just amazing. Also the boat trip was great, something completely new to me, except at one of the days the sea was a bit too rough and I was really sea-sick. When we stepped on the White Heaven Beach, I could not believe a place like that really existed! The sand is so white, the sea turquoise and the sky so blue… They say it is one of the ten whitest beaches in the whole world.This was my dream holiday before having Isabelle. As you know, having children changes the type of holidays you have, but I am really hoping that one day, once she and baba are older, we all can visit the places we did with daddy years ago… The Heart Island – Great Barrier Reef
